Weekly Celebrity Faceoff

Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow both showed up at the L.A. premiere of Iron Man 2 last night wearing Giorgio Armani -- a red carpet hit this season.

Scarlett wore one of Giorgio Armani Prive sculpted cocktail dress (for more on how I adored this collection read here).  Scarlett poured herself into this dress flawlessly, showing off her famous curves and enviable waistline.

Gwyneth showed off an Armani shorts suit accessorized with a black Louboutin clutch and black open-toe booties.  ... something about the black accessories just didn't hit the right notes for me.

Overall, I think Scarlett stole the show as the film's queen of the red carpet premiere, you?

Rodarte at Nordstroms

Sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, both barely 30, are better known as the Rodarte, the high fashion brand favorited by celebrities like Cate Blancheet, Natialie Portman and our Mrs. President. The camera shy sisters are bringing their 2010 collection to Nordstrom this week. On Thursday, April 29th, the sisters will be promoting the line with a rare public appearance at the Nordstrom in downtown Seattle, WA.

Style.com's Nicole Phelps, who attended the 2010 show wrote, "The show ended with a quartet of ethereal, unraveling, rather beautiful white dresses that alternately called to mind quinceaƱera parties, corpse brides, and, if you wanted to look at it through a really dark prism, the ghosts of the victims of JuƔrez's drug wars."

For those of you in the area:

500 Pine St., Seattle, WA 98101
Thursday, April 29 from Noon-2 p.m.

For those of us who aren't, we can check out the Rodarte collection online.

Fashion's Night Out

One of the biggest fashion shows, Fashion's Night Out, will be taking place at the Lincoln Center in New York City on September 10th this fall. This event features over 200 models and over 1,500 invitees.

If you weren't invited, tickets go on sale later this summer and the proceeds from the sale will help benefit The New York City AIDS fund.  If you can't make the event in person (like yours truly), this year's even will be broadcast on CBS in a one-hour fashion special on September 15th (set a reminder to set your DVRs).

Fashion's Night Out was started last year by Anna Wintour, the most powerful woman in fashion (and otherwise known as the "Devil" from The Devil Wears Prada).  Its objective was to save help boost the industry and the economy from the recession:  stores stayed open for a few more hours and people got to meet-and-greet celebrities and designers alike.

Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day!

In honor of Earth Day, we wanted to show off this efficient and inspiration home with
24 different rooms under 400 square feet :

Apartments are small and expensive in Hong Kong, so architect Gary Chang designed his 344 square foot unit to change into 24 different designs, just by sliding walls and panels around. He calls it the “Domestic Transformer.” (from noob.us)

Transparent Purse

I recall see-through bags being a hot trend during middle school.  But, I'm not sure how I'd feel about showcasing my mundane items through a plastic bag today.

Prada decided to bring back this trend with their transparent handbag line below.

These bags run from $1,295 - $1,695 (though on sale at 20% off on Bluefly) -- quite pricey for a sheet of plastic and some fancy leather handles.

Would you wear transparent handbags?

LG Fashion Touch Phone

Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria Parker star in a commercial for the new LG Fashion Touch phone.

The premise for the spot is for Victoria to play stylist to her BFF, Eva.  Unfortunately, the end result is somewhat choppy since the spot is only 10 second long.

Both ladies are looking fabulous -- love the bangs on Eva.

Sky High Pumps

Did you know that during times of recession, the height of the women's footwear would be on the rise, literally?  Apparently, according to Elizabeth Semmelhack, author of "Heights of Fashion: A History of the Elevated Shoe", it's our "greater need for escapism".

"We have entered a moment of heightened impracticality in footwear," Semmelhack states, "Heel heights noticeably grew during the Great Depression of the 1930s, the oil crisis in the 1970s, and when the dotcom bubble burst in the 2000s."

I recently picked up a pair of 2" heels in gray from Nordstroms.  At first, I thought this would be a cute and girlie backup to my "adult" shoes.  But, for the last two months, I've found myself marching around in these almost everyday without fail.  It's surprisingly become my favorite comfort shoe and I already started searching for more in other colors!

How tall are your heels?

More details on this phenomenon here or pick up Semmelhack book below.

Personal-izing Handbags

Remember in high school when you used to doodle on your backpack during class?  Or have friends impart their love onto your favorite tote?  Well, fear not that you have to leave this habit behind because I discovered today adults can still do this.

Allow me to submit my witnesses...

Mary-Kate Olsen is notorious for carrying around her scribble-ridden Balenciaga.  Today on People, I noticed even Lady Gaga's got some ink on her Birkin bag (yes, writing on a Birkin!).  Since I'm just an average worker bee, I'd most likely never own a Birkin in my lifetime.  On a good fortune that I might, I may never let a it out of its shrink wrap; it will sit nicely in an air-sealed container next to doorway waiting for rescue in case of a fire.  THE Birkin bag, averaging $6,500-$65,000 (and a potential waiting-list of 5 years), has become the most coveted handbag of our time.

But, that's what we love about Gaga: her laissez-faire, too-cool-for-school attitude about it all.  She can do whatever she damn well pleases.

What do you think?  What are you doodling on?
